A total of 13 floats, including one with a glam rock theme made by Pelsall's Ryders Hayes School, were in the procession and a marching band from the Air Training Corps in Aldridge also took part. The carnival celebrated its 40th consecutive year and provided entertainment such as dog shows, Zumba and gymnastics displays. More than 100 stalls were laid out.

Ian Rhydderch, secretary of Pelsall Carnival Committee, which organised the event, said: "Everyone desperately hoped the event wouldn't be cancelled due to the weather.

"We were determined for it to go on and it went quite well. The weather was reasonably kind to us, despite a bit of rain. There was a record number of floats in the procession this year.

"It was much better than when we were making the preparations on Friday.

"The showground was 60 per cent of the size it should have been because of the weather. We didn't want anyone to get bogged down but there were a couple of cars that got stuck and needed pulling out of the mud."
