Black Country Half Marathon sees 1,000 runners

More than 1,000 runners put their best foot forward for the Birmingham Black Country Half Marathon. Participants set off from Wolverhampton, racing along the Birmingham Canal Mainline and finishing at Brindleyplace.

The men's race was won by Martin Williams, who completed the course in one hour, 15 minutes and 19 seconds. Meanwhile Yasmin Chaudhri was the quickest woman at 1hr 29m16s.

Eddie Smith, aged 49, a member of Stafford Harriers who ran the race in 1hr 48m 36s, was being sponsored and raising money for the charity Oak Tree Farm in Stone. He said: "I've run this race three times before. This is my fourth time.

Last year I raised £500 for charity and I'm hoping to raise just as much this year." Mr Smith, of Tillington Street, Stafford, works for the county council.
