A football coach and charity fundraiser from Wolverhampton carried the iconic Olympic torch as it travelled through Buxton on its way to the region.

Andrew Steel had the honour of carrying the famous flame at around 5pm yesterday - and will today be followed by other worthy community stalwarts and celebrities in the region, including boy band The Wanted.

He was nominated to carry the famous flame because of his efforts with his local football club, which he has transformed.

When he became involved in 2003 the under 16 team was about to fold. But he took his coaching qualification to take over the running of the team as well as the role of secretary and fundraiser, and has raised more than £5,000 over the past five years to benefit the club and charities.

Superstar boyband The Wanted will today carry the flame through Newtown, South Staffordshire, and 11-year-old Halesowen schoolboy Dominic Macgowan will carry it on its journey through Birmingham.
