A total ban will be placed on motorists driving through Willenhall town centre on market days. Steps are now being taken to tighten up on where people can drive in and around Market Place.

New signs will be put up allowing police to take stricter action against drivers who flout the rules.

Stallholders had complained that cars were travelling through the town centre on market days, putting lives and livelihoods at risk.

Roads chief Councillor Tom Ansell said today: "As a result of listening, there will be an extra half an hour on market days for stall holders to use their vehicles to unload in the pedestrianised area in and around Market Place.

"This means there will be a total ban on vehicles from 10am to 4pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays."

At other times, entry to the pedestrianised area will only be allowed for blue badge holders and bays will be introduced for loading and disabled parking when the market is not running.

Councillor Ansell added: "We're going through the necessary processes to tighten up on where people can drive in and around the Market Place pedestrian area."
