Rail services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham were delayed today after a train broke down in Oldbury.

The Arriva Wales train, which was travelling from Shrewsbury to Birmingham Airport came to halt at Sandwell and Dudley Station at about 7.40am.

Passengers on the service were delayed by about 25 minutes.

There was also a knock-on effect to a handful of other services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, which had to be diverted via Bescot.

These included the Virgin service from Manchester Piccadilly to Euston, which goes via Wolverhampton, and the London Midland service from Wolverhampton to Birmingham New Street.

Network Rail today apologised for the delays.
