A weather-ravaged road in Willenhall will close for seven nights for resurfacing works, following a long-running campaign by residents in the area.

Drivers face a week of disruption on the A4124 Lichfield Road in New Invention between 8pm and 6am.

The closure will come into force from Monday evening, when carriageway resurfacing is carried out. Councillors in the area have welcomed the work.

Ian Shires, representative for Willenhall North, said the scheme was the culmination of a long-running campaign to improve the state of roads in the area.

"Recent hard winters and the increased volume of traffic has lead to the rapid deterioration of a number of key routes through the area," he said.

"Fellow councillors and activists have worked hard to raise the profile of the condition of a number of roads across the area."

He said future work had also been planned for nearby Spring Lane, Pooles Lane, Wood Lane and Birchtree Hollow before the end of the year.

Lichfield Road will close from its junction with Crab Lane and A462 Essington Road. A diversion will be in place for cars to travel down Crab Lane, Sneyd Lane and the A462 Essington Road and vice versa.

Access to shops and homes will be available.
