A £150,000 package of measures to improve the main shopping street in Walsall town centre is due to be completed by the end of the month.

Benches and bins will be replaced in Park Street, more cycle parking is being introduced and trees are being planted to improve the views at the rear of Poundland.

The work also includes removing the large planter outside the Saddlers Centre and planting trees in smaller ones along the entire stretch of Park Street.

The width of the pavement will be increased at Town End to ease pedestrian access between Park Street and the Tesco store in Littleton Street West.

Jon Burnett, Walsall Council's regeneration officer, said: "Work completed so far has already had a positive effect on Park Street visually. It should all be completed by June 30."

The package of improvements had been drawn up following feedback given by members of the public.
