A teenage boy is critically ill in a coma after being attacked in a Halesowen street. Detectives investigating are trawling through CCTV to try to piece together how the attack happened.

Officers were called to Cocksheds Lane near to Malt Mill Lane and Olive Lane at around 9.10pm on Friday after a call from a member of the public saying they thought there had been a fight and that a man was on the floor with people around him.

When they arrived, police found the 16-year-old, who is from Warley in Oldbury, lying unconscious. They provided first aid until the ambulance service arrived to take the boy to hospital.

It is believed there was an altercation involving the boy and three other men which resulted in him receiving a serious head injury.

House-to-house enquiries and a fingertip search of the scene have been carried out.

DI Nigel Harrison, from the criminal investigation department, said: "We've spoken to a number of people already and we're just starting to piece together the circumstances which led to this lad sustaining this very serious head injury. But we need more information."
