Flooding is on the way to the Midlands – with more than two weeks' worth of rain expected to fall in just two days. A severe weather warning has been issued for today and tomorrow as storms sweep the region.

An estimated 25mm of rain fell in some areas of the Black Country overnight, with another 15mm due tonight.

Met Office spokesman Charlie Powell said people should brace themselves for lashings of rain and gusts of wind of more than 40mph over the next few days.

"What we are going to see is blustery and potentially quite thundery showers, with the West Midlands being hit quite hard," he said. "We will also see some more prolonged rain tomorrow."

The Environment Agency has issued 12 flood alerts.

Organisers of the annual Cosford Air Show, which attracts thousands of visitors every year, said they were hoping the weather would brighten up on Sunday.

Flying display director Bill Hartree said they were "optimistic" the miserable weather front would move on. We are not making any changes to the show at the moment," he said.

The latest storms come days after 80mm, or three inches fell in just 24 hours flooding homes.
