A horse and carriage, sports cars and novelty limos were among the spectacular ways that pupils at a Kingswinford school arrived at their prom.

About 200 Year 11 youngsters from Summerhill School, Kingswinford, attended the colourful event, which was held at Blakelands Country Guest House and Restaurant, Bobbington.

No expense was spared at the annual prom, which is arranged by the pupils themselves with the help of teachers. The boys and girls all donned their finery for a night they are bound to remember for a long time.

Assistant headteacher Julia Robinson said the pupils' way of travelling to the event had been more inventive than ever, withnovelty limousines designed to look like a police car and a fire engine.

She said: "Students arrived by limos, sports cars, emergency service vehicles and, for the first time in the history of the event, a horse-drawn carriage.

"The pupils entered Blakefields walking elegantly down a red carpet and feeling like royalty. It was an incredible night and one I think they'll remember for a long time."

Louise Passmore, receptionist at Blakelands, said the it was venue's fifth school prom of the year and that once again it had been a great success.

She said: "Summerhill come here for their prom every year. They arrived and had non-alcoholic Bucks Fizz, a finger buffet and a disco.

"Everyone seemed to have a brilliant time."

The girls donned an array of party dresses in practically every colour of the rainbow, while the young men looked smart in their sharp suits.

The teenagers are the latest to send their pictures to the Express & Star, and we'll publish as many as we can in the newspaper and on our website www.expressandstar. com
