Girl tried to chase after handbag thief

A teenage girl tried to chase a thief when her handbag was snatched after she got off a bus in Redditch.

The 17-year-old victim was walking home when the bag was grabbed from her shoulder from behind, breaking the metal chain strap. She chased after the thief but lost sight of him.

The pink bag contained a brown leather purse with around £80 in cash, a white Samsung Galaxy S2 mobile phone and a bank card.

The male thief was around 5 ft 8 inches in height, stocky and wearing a grey top with black detail and a hood which was up. He was also wearing dark, straight trousers or tracksuit bottoms.

Police have carried out house to house inquiries in the area and are studying CCTV footage. They are now appealing for witnesses to the theft, which happened in Bushley Close, Redditch on June 5.
