Tipton war hero Karl Hinett had an emotional reunion with his family after returning home after an attempt to conquer Mount Everest.
The 25-year-old, who survived a bomb in Iraq in 2005, was part of a team of injured soldiers in Walking with the Wounded.
But the challenge was aborted after warm conditions increased the avalanche risk.
Karl, of Hall Lane, , is now looking ahead to being an Olympic torchbearer on July 1 in Solihull, and will finish his challenge to run 100 marathons in 24 months.
He said: "We were disappointed not to climb Everest, but it was the right decision."
