Olympic fever was sweeping through Bewdley and Kidderminster today as the towns eagerly awaited the arrival of the famous torch.

Crowds were gathering early to get a glimpse of the flame being carried proudly through the streets.

Choirs were warming up to greet the relay and staff at the Severn Valley Railway had prepared a special train – The Worcestershire Express – to transport the torch from Bewdley to Kidderminster.

Shoppers in Bewdley were able to get their hands on a sweet version of the Olympic Torch in the shape of cup cakes.

The Kimmy Loves Cakes Bake Shop in Load Street produced 50 cup cakes – each enclosed in an ice cream cone with orange frosted butter cream on top – to sell to the crowds gathering to watch the historic event.

Owner Kim Bennett, aged 26, said: "It's a great event for the town.

"We should all feel really honoured and we wanted to mark the event with something special."

Shops in the towns have also been decorated ahead of the relay.
