Residents in Wyre Forest district are being asked for their views on plans to turn off – or dim – street lights at night to save money.

Worcestershire County Council wants to carry out a series of pilot schemes in parishes across the county, including Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster, to test out the impact of reducing street lighting to save on carbon emissions, as well as cash.

The council is responsible for 52,000 street lights and 8,000 illuminated road signs, which cost about £2million every year and account for 21 per cent of the area's CO2 emissions.

County councillor John Smith has written to all parish councils across Worcestershire asking if they would be interested in taking part in the pilot.

Local residents are now being asked if they would be willing for any of their local street lights to be switched off or dimmed for a period during the night and what problems it might cause.

People can have their say by calling 01905 822873.
