Video: Try a Segway Tour of Cannock Chase
There are some days when our roving video journalist Nicky Butler loves her job... and that was definitely the case when she got the chance to ride a Segway on beautiful Cannock Chase.
There are some days when our roving video journalist Nicky Butler simply loves her job... and that was definitely the case when she got the chance to ride a Segway on beautiful Cannock Chase.
Launched back in 2001, these two-wheeled electric vehicles are the newest addition to Go Ape! at the Birches Valley Forest Centre outside Rugeley in Staffordshire. Powered by battery, they do not harm the environment.
Famed for being used by politicians, celebrities and international police forces, the premise of the Segway is simple - all you have to do is lean forward or back depending on where you want to go.
However, Piers Morgan, George Bush and Gordon Ramsey are among the A Listers who've been snapped taking a tumble from their Segway PT (short for personal transporter).
Luckily, instructor Stuart Moody was on hand to provide Nicky with a health and safety induction along with riding instructions.
"After an initial few wobbles, I was eager to set off," she said.
"The tour takes you through a series of tracks in the forest that many visitors wouldn't normally get the chance to see. "
By the end of it, I was already speeding towards my next visit!"
An hour's Segway tour at the Birches Valley Forest Centre costs £25 For more visit goape.co.uk/days-out/cannock.
