An Olympic torchbearer returned to his Dudley school to inspire future generations of athletes.

David White, of Netherton, was chosen to carry the iconic torch as part of the nationwide relay in the run-up to the London games.

The 48-year-old travelled to Plymouth on Sunday for his chance to hold the torch and was cheered on by his sons Daniel, 15, and 13-year-old Martin.

Mr White, a tutor assessor for the Amateur Swimming Association, visited his old school, Netherton C of E Primary, yesterday to share his experience with pupils. And as a special treat he brought along the torch he had carried during the relay for them to see and have their picture taken with.

Mr White, who still lives in Netherton, travels around the country working with athletes.

"It was they who nominated me to carry the Olympic torch and I was very honoured when I was selected," he said. Mr White said he was visiting other schools in the area but had wanted Netherton C of E to be the first.
