The pool at Wolverhampton Central Baths is expected to reopen in early July after a £40,000 repair programme.

It was closed at the end of February after tiles came loose from the the tank.

The problem developed because the pool had to be drained to remove glass that had been smashed during a break in. Thieves made off with a hairdryer from a changing room.

Approximately 20,000 tiles – including 14,700 on the base of the Wolverhampton pool alone – are being installed as part of the work.

Specialist contractors have spent the last month removing the old tiles and preparing the 22-year-old pool for the installation replacements within the next few weeks.

The pool will then need to "rest" for around three weeks to allow the tiles to set properly before a deep clean of the entire pool area takes place to remove the tile dust which has built up over the last few weeks.

Once that is complete, the pool will be filled – a process which takes around 10 days as Central Baths holds 136,000 gallons of water – and the water heated to the required temperature before it is reopened to the public.
