A bit of help from Prince's Trust volunteers based at a Black Country police station has served up a treat for a local charity.

The group of 16-25-year-olds, based at Smethwick Police Station, has transformed a plot of land into an allotment to supply a soup kitchen.

Sandwell Council donated a plot of land in Smethwick to the kitchen run by the charity Centre Point.

The trust students decided to help the busy Centre Point charity set up the allotment and will also be helping at the soup kitchen later this month.

They funded the project by packing bags at Iceland, Wednesbury, and Asda, Oldbury, as well as collecting money in Smethwick and West Bromwich in fancy dress. West Bromwich Albion Football Club also donated a signed football which was raffled by the students. They raised £550.

The students will look after the land until June 8 when they complete the Prince's Trust Team Programme. The project will then be handed back to Centre Point. Team leader Pc

Andy Peters said:?"I feel that this is a very difficult time for young people and finding employment is not easy. These young people have voluntarily signed up to this Team Programme. They have proved that they can make a difference to the local community by working together."
