A woman who was killed in a car smash near Wolverhampton was today named as 24-year-old Jekaterina Ruluka.

The Latvian national, who had been living in Wolverhampton, died instantly when the powerful silver Mercedes E-Class crashed on the approach to the Keyway island at Portobello, Willenhall. She was the passenger in the car.

Police were today working to identify the driver, who is also believed to be a foreign national.

Police spokesman Lee Page said: "The driver has not been formally identified yet."

Officers believe the estate car spun out of control as the driver braked for the island before slamming into fencing at 5.36am on Sunday. Witnesses or anyone with information can call 101.
