Discount chain Home Bargains is opening in a former furniture store in the Black Country – creating 40 jobs, it was revealed today.

The firm has spent £500,000 on refitting the shop on the Merry Hill Retail Park, which opens on Saturday.

The site, next to Mothercare, was formerly used by furniture retailer Lee Longlands as a clearance outlet.

The chain says there are plans to open another 50 stores in the next twelve months. The firm already has stores in Brierley Hill, Stourbridge and Dudley.

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, said: "Home Bargains is excited to be opening our store in Merry Hill. It will be a great location for us."

The 13,000 sq ft store will sell homeware, health and beauty products, household goods, snacks and alcohol.
