A young woman found dead in a Black Country flat was today named locally as Dain Lee. A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The body of Ms Lee was found in a flat in Grace Road, Tipton, on Monday evening. Residents in the street said she had been living at the property with a man. It is believed Ms Lee was a student of international relations and sociology at Aston University.
The 27-year-old man was arrested at a railway station in Bristol on suspicion of murder and brought back to the West Midlands for questioning yesterday. He remains in police custody today as inquiries continue.
A post mortem was also due to be held today to confirm the exact cause of death of the victim.
Forensic experts combed the scene for clues yesterday and removed Ms Lee's body at around 1pm.
Police continued to take witness statements into yesterday evening.
Neighbours in the street said Ms Lee was a "sweet" woman.
A 20-year-old resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "She would always be very nice to the children. She was really friendly and sweet. I am still in shock."
Ronald Richards, a retired steelworker of Grace Road for the past 50 years, said the entire community had been upset by the news.
"We've never had anything like this here before," the great-grandfather of four added. "It's usually so quiet."
An 80-year-old neighbour, who did not wish to be named, added: "She seemed a nice woman. I would often see her out walking holding hands with a man."
Det Insp Andy Hawkins, who is leading the investigation, said: "As part of our investigation we will be speaking to people in the local area.
"Forensic inquiries are being made at the property and we urge anyone who has information about what has happened to come forward to speak to us at their earliest opportunity."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
