An express bus route connecting Cannock and Lichfield is to be axed.

The hourly X60 will be withdrawn after April 14, Arriva said. It was launched a year ago but "has not proved popular", spokesman Keith Myatt said.

The 60 route, which runs every 30 minutes serving more stops, will continue.

"Recent monitoring highlighted a serious reduction in the number of people travelling on X60 and we are therefore forced to withdraw this route," Mr Myatt said.

The 60 buses run between Cannock and Lichfield bus stations, calling at Cross Keys, Hednesford; Five Ways, Heath Hayes; Norton Canes Library; Sankeys Corner in Chase Terrace, Chasetown Technical College; and Farewell Lane, Burntwood.

The X60 misses out Hednesford and Norton Canes.
