With its VIP lounge, chandelier and tasteful garden area, the owners of the The Prince Albert are aiming to give people a reason to dress up.

The Grade II-listed building in Fryer Street dates back to 1900 and has been brought back to its former glory in a £500,000 refurbishment.

Owners Ryan McGillicuddy, aged 31, and Richard Bourne, 37, said they wan-ted to give people a place to eat during the day and before going to the Grand Theatre as well as a nightspot.

They have created 45 jobs and managers have spent five weeks putting staff through training to mix cocktails and get ready to open. The venue holds around 400 people and last night people had to be on the guest list to get in.

Student Holly Wood, aged 29, of Aldersley Road, Tettenhall, said: "It's great to be able to dress up. I don't go out in Wolverhampton but with this place and the Uberra club at The Canal there's a reason to."

Her friend Danielle Pitt, a 28-year-old housing support worker, from Keepers Lane, Codsall, added: "Going out in heels in Wolverhampton was a no-no. We tend to go away to places like Liverpool for nights out but this is really nice."

Recruitment consultant Devon Walton, aged 22, from Albion Street, Wolverhampton, said she and her friend Charlotte Salt, from Solihull, would previously have gone out in Birmingham.
