Dozens of horses have been illegally tethered or left to roam in a village, sparking calls for them to be immediately moved off the land.

The problem has escalated over the last few months with up to 20 animals having settled within some areas of Pelsall.

Horses have gathered on green spaces off Goscote Valley and Walsall Road over the last six weeks, prompting complaints and concern among residents.

Council chiefs say they are aware of the issue and are looking to deal with the problem. The animals can be confiscated and owners billed £2,000 to get them back.

Pelsall councillor Garry Perry said: "The number of horses has been growing. It can be intimidating for people and they are blocking access routes."
