Pupils and staff were evacuated from historic Lichfield Cathedral School this afternoon after a fire started on the first floor.
Five crews of firefighters were called to the school, in The Close, after the blaze started just after 2.30pm.
Around 400 pupils and 30 members of staff had to escape the building as the fire took hold.
Firefighters from Lichfield, Tamworth, Chase Terrace, and Barton-under-Needwood were at the scene.
Witnesses said the school was "well ablaze".
