A restaurant owner from Wolverhampton who had run his own business in Kidderminster for almost three decades has died suddenly aged 50.

Jack Beddall opened The Three Shires restaurant in Lower Mill Street when he was 22. He had worked at Himley Country Club and the Kingfisher Country Club in Kingswinford after leaving catering college in Stafford.

The avid Wolverhampton Wanderers fan, who died at home just before he was due to set off for work, leaves his wife Vicky, son Edward, 15 and daughters Frances, 13 and nine-year-old Nancy.

His widow, Mrs Beddall, of Springhill Park, Lower Penn, said his death had been a "huge shock".

"He had dedicated his life to his family and his restaurant. It was a family business. His sister and I both worked there.

"After leaving catering college, he worked at Himley Country Club and the Kingfisher Country Club, but he decided he wanted to branch out on his own and so he started his own business in 1984."

During the past 28 years, the restaurant has proven popular with the town. The restaurant is currently closed but Mrs Beddall hopes to re-open it soon.

Mr Beddall died on February 18. The cause of his death is not yet known. His funeral will be held on Monday at 4.10pm at Gornal Wood Crematorium, Dudley.
