Two revellers were punched and kicked by a pair of thugs following a birthday celebration at a pub – prompting a judge to declare the public were "absolutely sick" of drunken violence in Wolverhampton city centre.

Rajdeep Bhamra and Arjan Thumber attacked two men outside the Indi Bar in Lichfield Street during a rowdy confrontation involving Emily Brough, a friend of the victims who was out celebrating her birthday. One of the men had his head stamped on twice by Thumber.

The other victim was punched to the head and body by Bhamra, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard yesterday.

Miss Brough was also pushed against a wall.

Prosecutor Miss Rhiannon Jones said headcam equipment worn by door security staff captured the attacks in full.

Judge Martin Walsh told Bharma and Thumber: "The public are absolutely sick and tired of drink-fuelled violence on the streets of Wolverhampton in the early hours."

Trouble flared in the early hours of June 11.

Personal trainer Bhamra, aged 21, of Lonsdale Road, Pennfields, and 18-year-old Thumber, of Chorley Gardens, Bilston, were outside the venue in a black VW Golf when Miss Brough and her friends left.

She was involved in an exchange of words with the two men, who got out of the car and confronted her friends, said Miss Jones.

Bharma and Thumber had earlier admitted affray.

Judge Walsh handed them both a 42-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months. Thumber will do 180 hours of unpaid work and both will be electronically tagged to ensure they stay home between 7pm and 7am for three months.
