Scores of people braved icy conditions to take part in an eight mile run at a Midlands beauty spot. The 16th Wyre Forest Multi-Terrain 8 was held yesterday.

And despite treacherous snow and ice, dozens turned out for the event which set off from the attraction in Callow Hill, near Bewdley, at 11am.

More than 200 people took part in yesterday's event which took in the paths and trails around the picturesque Worcestershire site.

And those joining in seemed unfazed by the conditions. Runner Alan Hodgkiss aged 67 from Telford took part in the run with Ian Beattie, aged 54, also from Telford. He was not daunted about the prospect of the ice.

He said: "The key is just taking it steady, once the fast runners get out of the way you can settle in and take it steady." Christine Hirsch who had travelled from Moseley in Birmingham, added: "I have ran in snow before, but nothing this icy.

"It is the first time I have done this event and there is a good turnout despite the weather."

Keith Silvester, aged 52 from Shrewsbury, added: "The conditions are not brilliant but they don;t seem to have put too many people off."

Each finisher received a medal while all five-year category winners received a prize and a trophy.

Organisers also recognised the first 10 finishers, the first 10 female finishers, as well as the first team and first female team to finish.

Michael Wilesmith, of Guernsey Island AAC finished in first place with a time of 46.20. Robin Biles of Birmingham Running and Triathlon Club was second with 49.03 and Gareth Briggs, of Staffordshire Moorlands AC, finished third in 49.15.
