Thirty vans were damaged in a suspected arson attack at a parcel delivery firm.

Around 50 firefighters tackled the blaze in a unit at the Yodel site in Union Road, Oldbury, at 2.11pm yesterday. The fire is being treated as suspicious.

West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Steve Vincent said the fire took place in a unit housing around 30 Transit vans believed to be used to deliver packages. Although the vehicles were destroyed and the unit badly damaged, the flames were contained and did not spread to adjoining units.

At its peak 10 fire engines attended. Heavy smoke also threatened to affect the nearby railway line but trains were no stopped.

Mr Vincent, said: "We had up to 50 firefighters tackling what was quite an intrusive blaze.

"We are investigating with the police at the present moment in time, but we believe it is suspicious."
