A television belonging to murdered elderly couple Giuseppe and Caterina Massaro was sold for £160 the day after their bodies were found inside their Wolverhampton home, a court heard.

The 32in Sony TV was among a number of items stolen from their house in Park Village. The bodies of Mr Massaro, aged 80, and his wife, 77, were found on April 22 last year.

Ireneusz Bartnowski, 22, of no fixed address, denies murdering the elderly couple. Meanwhile Wojciech Ostolski, 32, of Chervil Rise, Heath Town, pleads not guilty to handling goods stolen from the home between April 20 and April 25.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard yesterday how Ostolski had phoned a friend on April 23 and offered to sell him the TV. Leszek Lewandowski told Ostolski that he could not afford to stump up the money but his friend Sebastian Rusia wanted to buy it, it was said.

The pair went round to Ostolski's house in Chervil Rise, Heath Town, to see the TV. Mr Lewandowski told the court that the TV was in Ostolski's sitting room and was switched on when he got there."

The trial continues on Monday.
