This is the first picture of tragic teenager Chris Bains, who was killed in a car crash in Wednesfield.

The former Moreton Community School student was today described as "popular and sporty" by his old headteacher.

The 18-year-old was killed when the car he was travelling in veered on to a pavement and crashed through a garden wall on Sunday.

It is believed the victim lived in The Scotlands area and left Moreton Community School two years ago.

Headteacher Carl Williams said today: "Chris was a popular and well-liked student, who was bright and loved his sport. He was a very popular lad and lots of people knew him. It was extremely sad when I had to break the news to people."

Mr Bains was a rear seat passenger in a silver Rover 45, which was carrying four people, travelling along Mill Lane.

The three other occupants, in their 20s, suffered spinal, rib and arm injuries.
