A teenager was killed when a car veered on to the pavement and demolished a garden wall in a horror crash that left three others injured.

The 18-year-old was a rear seat passenger in a silver Rover 45.

The car, which was carrying four people, went out of control in Wolverhampton.

The saloon narrowly missed a tree and a lamp post in Mill Lane, Wednesfield, before knocking down part of a 2.5ft garden wall.

It then crashed into the metal gate posts of two houses and demolished part of another section of garden wall as it careered along the pavement. The Rover came to rest against a tree after spinning round to face the way it had been travelling.

Residents rushed out of their homes to try to help at around 1.30pm yesterday.

A nurse tried to give first aid to the injured until paramedics reached the scene.

The tragic teenager, who appeared to have suffered a head injury, was certified dead shortly after reaching New Cross Hospital.

He had been sitting in the rear seat of the car on the side that took the brunt of the impacts.

It took firefighters 25 minutes to free both the other trapped passengers. The man and woman and the male driver were taken to hospital. The three suffered spinal, rib and arm injuries.
