One enthusiastic slimmer is thrashing the competition in the Midlands Biggest Loser contest, as she is on track to lose double her target weight loss.

After a mammoth effort last week, where she lost a stone in just seven days, Kerry Collins, aged 43, has lost another 6lbs as part of the full, one-month fitness drive, sponsored by the Express & Star in conjunction with Chris Jewkes Fitness in Tettenhall.

It was the third weigh-in for the group, who signed up for the intensive exercise and nutrition plan at the start of the month with a combined weight of 77st 13lbs. This week's results have taken them down to 73st 5lbs.

"I have been to the gym every day since we started – I've even started to up the level of what I'm doing, which is great," said Mrs Collins, of Wells Road in Penn.

"My husband has really started to notice a difference – I can't wait to go out and buy some new clothes." Having started out aiming to lose a stone, she has now revised her ambitions up to losing two stone before the contest ends.

In second place is Phil Westwood, 49, of Christine Close, Tipton. He, too, is close to his goal of losing a stone-and-a-half from a starting weight of 23st.

Meanwhile, Cheryl Gallagher, 42, of Foxmeadow Close, Sedgley shed another 3lbs taking her total weight loss so far to 8lbs.

Unfortunately, the fourth finalist – Sally Mears, 31, of Reapers Walk, Pendeford – has had to bow out of training this week because of an achilles injury so her weight has remained static.

The final weigh-in is next week.
