More than 100 litres of milk spilled onto a main road when a box van shed its load.
A side curtain of the van split as the Polish driver turned the corner from Grove Street onto the A459 Dudley Road in Wolverhampton, near St John's Retail Park in Snow Hill, sending metal cages carrying dozens of milk cartons flying.
Fire crews were called and prevented most of the spillage from going down drains by placing soil around the covers.
Police closed off the road while the clean-up work took place following the accident, which happened at 11.15am yesterday.
Watch commander David Foley, from Brierley Hill fire station, said: "The load of the van shifted when the driver turned the corner, causing the side of the vehicle to rip. It's quite a big environmental issue for us when milk is spilled.
"We had to stop it going down the drains, so we got some soil and created a dam around the covers."
