Once the free Express & Star app is downloaded from iTunes to an iPad or iPhone, users can flick through the pages of the most recent electronic edition of the paper.

Shortly after each newspaper is published, readers can get a pixel perfect replica of the newspaper to view the latest news, sport and opinion even when offline.

Since the app was launched on Monday, users have been queueing up to praise it. Adam Parton said: "A very nice yet simplistic app, works fine and with no noticeable errors." He added: "Definitely going to keep subscribed to it."

Once the one-week free trial is up, subscribing to the newspaper via the app costs £1.49 per week or £3.99 per month.

The app comes with a host of features, including an archive to view recent back issues and the option to save pages or editions to the device. The iPad and iPhone technology mean users can scroll through the pages, zoom in and out or turn the device to view a double page spread.

Readers can use a smart search facility to find the story they want either from the latest edition or their archive.

And you can share content with friends on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, or by sending an email.
