Market traders in a Staffordshire town have launched a new initiative to help out struggling businesses.

The organisers of Penkridge Market are offering any business in the parish of Penkridge the opportunity to take a free stall on the market, for one day, to help promote their business and reach new customers.

Businesses will be offered a 10ft pitch on the market on either a Wednesday or a Saturday.

Each business can use the pitch for one day, per year.

Matt Williams, manager at Penkridge Market, said market research has shown that the market attracts up to 5,000 people every market day, from around the region, including people from as far as Telford, Stoke-on-Trent and Walsall.

He said: "We know how tough it is for any business during this difficult economic climate, so this is just our way of helping local businesses to promote themselves to a new audience."
