Detectives today released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to following a shop robbery in Burntwood and an attempted robbery of a bank in Lichfield.

Staffordshire Police said a man demanded money from staff at Santander Bank in Market Street, Lichfield, before fleeing the scene empty handed.

It happened at about 11.10am on Thursday . No-one was injured during the incident.

The same man is then believed to have struck at Bargain Booze in Chase Road, Burntwood, later that day at about 9.50pm. A man of the same description threatened a member of staff in the shop, who was left shaken by the incident, but uninjured.

He stole an undisclosed quantity of cash and made off on foot towards Lichfield.

It is believed the same man is responsible for both incidents.

Police have now issued a description.

They say the man is being white, between 5ft 7ins to 6ft tall and of medium build with receding hair.

He was wearing blue jeans and brown trainers, with a black jacket and protruding grey hood. Local policing team commander Insp Jed White said: "These types of incidents are very rare in both Lichfield and Burntwood.

"When they do happen we are committed to bringing offenders to justice.

"We believe the offences are linked and were committed by the same man.

"We are appealing for the public to help us identify and locate him and I would urge anyone with any information to contact us immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
