Driver injured as car hits wall

A driver was airlifted to hospital today with serious injuries after his car crashed into a brick wall, causing it to collapse and trap him inside.

A driver was airlifted to hospital today with serious injuries after his car crashed into a brick wall, causing it to collapse and trap him inside.

The Vauxhall Vectra hit a wall outside a scrap metal dealer in Wolverhampton at around 4.15am today. Seconds later the wall collapsed onto the car trapping the driver and two passengers.

The crash happened near to the Jolly Collier Public House, in Old Heath Road. Two ambulances, two rapid response paramedic vehicles and an emergency doctor were sent to the scene.

The driver, who suffered a fractured pelvis and broken legs, was trapped inside the wreckage for one hour and 40 minutes.

He was airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital. A front seat passenger, aged in his 20s, scrambled clear, despite having a broken left arm and other injuries. He was taken to New Cross Hospital.
