Hundreds of people turned out to hear a South Staffordshire choir perform in three Christmas events in one weekend, helping them raise money for Compton Hospice.

The Codsall Singers performed at Beckminster Church and at Codsall Parish Rooms on Saturday, and for the Ex-servicemen at The Firs club in Codsall on Sunday.

The choir, formed around 10 years ago and meets at the Forget-Me-Not Club in Codsall on Thursday nights, managed to raise £100 for the hospice with the concerts, which drew in crowds from across Wolverhampton and Staffordshire.

Choir leader Janet Spencer said the 25-strong female-only group enjoy performing at concerts and members are always looking for their next event.

"We have already been booked for a Christmas concert in 2012 and our next one will be for the Church in the Village in Codsall in February," said Janet, aged 60. "The response we have to our concerts is very positive and we are now on the look-out for a new pianist who can accompany us at our many singing events."

Compton Hospice has been supporting patients facing a life-limiting illness and their families for 30 years.

It offers services free of charge to people in Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, South Staffordshire and East Shropshire. Services include respite and in-patient care, social workers, physiotherapy and more.
