A pub named after Wolves legend Billy Wright officially opened today – on the 57th anniversary of one of the club's greatest victories.

The Billy Wright, which was formerly Koi Bar and is located on Princess Street in Wolverhampton, has had a £370,000 makeover.

It is named after Wolves' former centre-half Billy Wright, who captained the club to a stirring 3-2 home victory over the then Hungarian giants Honved on December 13, 1954.

The pub – owned by Brewery Amber Taverns – is expected to create 15 new bar staff jobs.

Former Wolves' legends and players' wives were given a special preview yesterday.

Ron Flowers, aged 77, a former Wolves and England midfielder said: "It's nice that Billy can be remembered this way – he was a bit of a legend."

Eddie Stuart, aged 80, a former Wolves defender said: "Billy was one of the best and would have been so proud to see his place named after him."
