Members of the public tried to resuscitate Kenneth Cockburn but he died at the scene.
The 52-year-old, from the Walton area of Stone, was riding a silver Honda CBR 1100 motorbike on the A51 London Road near to Weston when it collided with a blue Volkswagen Golf driven by an 85-year-old man from Gayton, who was not injured.
Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident which happened just before 7.50am yesterday at the junction with Wadden Lane. The road was closed for four hours.
West Midlands Ambulance spokesman Chris Kowalik said: "Unfortunately nothing could be done to save the man."
It is the third accident – two of them fatal – on the same road in just over a week. Susan Sharp, of Salt, near Stafford, died last week after a collision on the A51 at Aston Marina, near Stone. On Thursday an elderly couple were injured after their car collided with a lamp post on the same road, at the A34 junction.
