Children at a school in South Staffordshire were helped to celebrate getting new play equipment by a hat -rick of Wolves goalkeepers.

The shot-stoppers – Wayne Hennessey, Dorus De Vries and Aaron McCarey – all went to Cherry Trees School in Wombourne to see the new equipment funded by Wolves Aid.

The school, in Giggetty Lane, Wombourne, provides education for children aged two to 11 years with a range of special needs, autism, challenging behaviour and for those whose needs cannot be met in a mainstream school.

The Wolves Aid grant of £5,000 funded the completion of a "trim trail", including a jelly board, tread mill and zigzag beam and the purchase of eight tricycles and go-karts.

The new equipment enables the children to develop with physical and sensory activities.

Wayne said: "It was a joy to see this amazing equipment bring a smile to the children's faces.

"The school has great facilities and it's wonderful to see the children enjoying them."

The latest payout from Wolves Aid follows a similar one made in October for children at Penn Hall Special School.

The school was awarded £20,000 which allowed them to purchase specialist equipment. The charity funded an outdoor accessible playground, purpose-built to enable the children to explore and enjoy the equipment safely.

The new playground was intended to boost the youngsters' confidence and self-esteem and help them to develop new skills. It is also being made available for children from other nearby schools so they can use it for after-school clubs and education programmes.

Wolves Aid provides funding to help organisations that support the community, particularly the disadvantaged and disabled. It also provides support to promote family life, the development of children and tackling deprivation.

Bosses prefer to deal with registered charities but will consider applications from other not-for-profit organisations.
