A broken down lorry caused hold-ups for drivers in Wolverhampton when it ground to a halt blocking a busy junction in the city.

Tailbacks stretched along Bridgnorth Road when it stopped on a roundabout at the junction with Henwood Road, Compton, opposite the Oddfellows pub, at around 3.30pm yesterday.

Police were called to direct drivers around the lorry. Mike Boyce, who owns Daisy Fresh and Essential convenience store, on Bridgnorth Road, said that congestion lasted for about two hours.

"It was fairly chaotic and the tailbacks were considerable," he said.

The 53-year old, from Pattingham, added: "It wasn't the driver's fault but it couldn't have been at a worse time. It was just before rush hour started, at about 3.30pm."

Oddfellows manager James Divall, aged 50, said many of his staff were 20 minutes late for work because of the congestion.
