Sedgley Park 43 Stourbridge 35

It was another hard result to swallow for Stourbridge Saxons as they pushed Sedgley Park all the way in National League One and fell short once again.

The final score at was 43-35 to the home side but that only begins to tell the tale of a match that featured 13 tries.

The last of those tries was an interception score from Park skipper Garth Dew that came as the visitors desperately tried to score with the final play of the match.

Cruelly, Dew's score robbed the visitors not only of the win but also of a losing bonus point, as it left an easy conversion for Matthew Riley.

Saxons had gone into a 10-0 lead early in the match through tries from Nathan Bressington, who beat off four defenders to squeeze into the right corner and Gary Dipple, who went over on the right.

They then imploded conceding four tries in a row through centre Fergus Owens, scrum-half Simon Parrott and wings Michael Dutton and Jamie Harrison.

James Rodley got the Saxons back into it scoring from close range following Ben Hughes catch and drive.

However, Harrison got his second before Bressington's rampaging run down the right was stopped just short and presented Woodrow with an easy score to get them back into it.

The Stourbridge pack then earned a penalty try, with two dominant five-metre scrums, to close the gap to a solitary point.

Dew scored his first of the match after some sloppy line out play, but Stour refused to give up and Bressington soon went over for his second try of the match.

Unfortunately, Woodrow was unable to make the conversion that would have given Stour the lead.

And, as they desperately searched for points with the last play of the match, the Park captain struck for the second time to seal the victory.
