Families hit by flood try to salvage homes

Homes were being dried out, damaged garden walls knocked down and waterlogged carpets thrown out as the clean-up continued.

Homes in Aldridge Road, Limetree Road, Whitethorn Crescent, Elmtree Road, Yew Tree Road, Cherrywood Road, Hazelwood Road, Foley Road West and Wood Lane were all affected when a large water pipe connected to Barr Beacon Reservoir burst in the early hours of Saturday.
Administrator Charlotte Merrix, aged 19, of Elmtree Road, said her home had suffered thousands of pounds damage.
"All the carpets have been removed," she said. "Everything in the kitchen has had to be taken out and thrown away.
"We have found out our garden will have to be redone. We're gutted – we can't believe it."
