TVs seized in police raids on homes

Electrical goods including televisions and mobile phones were seized by police in dawn raids in Sandwell today as part of an operation targeting suspected thieves and burglars.

Four homes and a scrapyard were raided by officers this morning, including one house in Herbert Street, West Bromwich, just before 8am.

Six officers seized a flat screen television, computer tower, push bike, USB sticks and phones. They also recovered a small amount of cannabis. No-one was in the property at the time, which is believed to have belonged to a man who is alleged to have been accepting stolen goods in exchange for drugs. Simultaneous raids took place elsewhere.

At a property on Lawrence Court, in Brandhall, Oldbury, a number of flat screen TVs and DVD players which were thought to be stolen were seized by police. Homes in Hawthorn Road in Tipton and Heathfield Lane in Darlaston were also raided.

Oldbury Metals, on Parsonage Street in Oldbury was also searched by police, but no stolen goods were recovered. No-one from the firm was available for comment.

There were no arrests during the raids, which were part of Operation Unite, launched to target offenders who commit burg-lary, robbery, metal theft and vehicle crime. Dc Dave Basterfield, who led the raid said: "In Operation Unite we are targeting people making a profit from other people's misery.

DC Matt Millward who is running operation Unite added: "We have made and will be making these offenders aware that we are going to be clamping down on them."
