Hundreds of gaming fans braved the cold and rain to queue up and get their hands on the new Call of Duty release which went on sale at midnight.

More than 800 people pre-ordered Modern Warfare 3 from Game at the top of Wolverhampton's Dudley Street, with some queuing from 5pm.

Almost 600 branches of Game and Gamestation across the country opened specially to sell the first copies of the game.

Last year's Call of Duty game, Black Ops, set an entertainment-industry record for most revenue generated in its opening five days, bringing in a staggering £405 million. The creators are hoping the Modern Warfare 3 will smash that record.
