A new £120 million eco park in Coseley will house a waste processing plant, it emerged today – angering residents who fear it will damage the area.

They are now launching a campaign to try to stop the plant from being built. The new waste facility would convert thousands of tons of rubbish into electricity.

The eco park has been billed as "one of the most environmentally-friendly employment destinations in the Midlands".

It is expected to create up to 1,300 new jobs on the 66-acre site stretching between Birmingham New Road and Sedgley Road West, which will also contain a supermarket and 200 homes.

But campaigners fear the Energy Recovery Facility, which reacts waste with gases at a high temperature to generate heat and electricity, could actually damage the environment.
