A decision about introducing a £100,000-a-year pay cap for senior officers at Cannock Chase District Council will be made next week.

The move is part of a salary review ordered by leader George Adamson. The savings, if a 10 per cent flat-rate cut was brought in, have been roughly estimated at £90,000.

Cannock's chief executive Stephen Brown is currently the only senior officer on the council payroll to earn more than £100,000, with a basic salary of £113, 473.

Another option on the table is a flat-rate cut in salaries of between five and 10 per cent. Councillors have raised concerns that some officers may be being paid more than people in similar positions at other authorities.

As part of the review, they have requested a report detailing pay levels for senior staff over the past 10 years and a comparison pay table with councils across Staffordshire and the West Midlands.
