A huge new ambulance hub that will house 230 members of staff and stock, service and clean a fleet of 50 vehicles will be built on an industrial estate in Willenhall, it was announced today.
The new centre will spring up on Ashmore Lake Industrial Estate next year. Bosses said construction work was due to start in January and last for nine months.
The vehicles will be cleaned, repaired and stored at the hub before and after paramedics take them out on their shifts at community ambulance stations across the Black Country.
Paramedics will also clock in and out at the new centre and take their breaks there.
The hub will serve new community stations in Bloxwich, Aldridge and Delves in Walsall, Tettenhall and Bushbury in Wolverhampton, Codsall in South Staffordshire and West Bromwich in Sandwell.
